One Health & Climate Change

Research Cluster Overview

Research Cluster: Life-Centricity, Health, and Wellbeing
Topic: One Health and Climate Change
Theme: SDG Goal 3

Overview: The One Health and Climate Change Research Centre aligned with SDG goal 3 is interested in addressing global health challenges, particularly those related to zoonotic diseases like Ebola, Zika, and COVID-19, by conducting interdisciplinary research that examines the ecological drivers of disease emergence and transmission. The centre employs advanced technologies such as genomic sequencing, climate modelling, and remote sensing to study the impacts of environmental changes, including air pollution and rising temperatures, on public health, wildlife and ecosystems. Our research aims to develop evidence-based strategies for climate adaptation and health interventions, translating scientific findings into actionable solutions. Furthermore, the insights and findings from the aforementioned research shall be utilized to engage the public in educational programs, outreach initiatives, and policy advocacy to empower stakeholders and promote sustainable practices that protect human health and the environment.

Expected Outcomes

  • Early warning of a disease outbreak
  • Better health security
  • Reduction in disease emergence
  • Enhanced environmental sanitation

Current Projects

  • Investigating the environment, pathogen and ectoparasite presence in slaughterhouses of Bengaluru South
  • Characterising morphometric and physiological urban heat adaptations of two gecko species of Urban Bengaluru
